AAEM's ability to react with amines and hydrazines makes it an ideal monomer for self-crosslinking, room temperature curing acrylic emulsions.

It can also be used in acetoacetic acid polymers, crosslinked by chelation with metal ions, and acetoacetic acid polymers for the production of non-fading fibers (azo dyes).
